Waldo County Non Profit Organization Builds School in African Bush Village

By Expanding Opportunities: Aina Moja | Jul 16, 2014

Expanding Opportunities, a non profit organization running the Aina Moja shop at 39 Main Street in downtown Belfast announces the building of a new school in Kenya, Gordon Clem Academy. The school, in honor of the late pastor, Gordon Clem; and funded in part by the Trinity Church in Lenox, Massachusetts, will offer schooling to those in need in the remote bush village, Ariemet, near Isiolo, Kenya. A Construction Service Journey is planned for September – November 2014 and volunteers are needed to help in a array of specialties. This opportunity will be a soul stretching experience in an immersion of life in a small Turkana village in Kenya and no experience is necessary.

Expanding Opportunities also operates JWHS, a home for orphans and former street children where they recieve food, clothing, medical care, education and love. Funding is made possible for these projects through the non profit’s Artisan Support Projects, at a local retail shop in downtown Belfast, Aina Moja. Aina Moja (Kiswahili for One of a Kind) supports Kenyan artists, giving them an opportunity to market at a fair trade standard offering a cultural fair trade gifts shop with a variety of hand crafted goods from baskets, bags, and hand tailored of a kind clothing to jewelry, housewares and other items. All proceeds from Aina Moja’s sales support the projects of Expanding Opportunities.
