Volunteers needed for trail cleanup

Apr 11, 2014
Hearty workers enjoy trail clearing in the Medomak watershed.

Waldoboro — After a long, hard winter everyone is ready to hit the trails. But, this past winter was tough on the trails and they need some help.

Join Medomak Valley Land Trust for a morning of trail work Saturday, April 19 to help prepare all of the trails for the spring and summer season.

The group will perform routine maintenance on existing trails as well as clearing new sections of trail that are currently under development. Tasks include removing fallen trees, cutting back vegetation, limbing trees, building bog bridges, and painting trail blazes. This is a great chance to visit trails you already know and love, or learn about some new ones!

Meet at MVLT’s office, at 25 Friendship St., Waldoboro, at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and doughnuts before tackling the trails. Teams will depart at 9 a.m. Participants should wear appropriate clothing, including gloves, long pants and sleeves, and sturdy shoes. MVLT will provide some equipment, but extra loppers, clippers, and chainsaws will be helpful.

For additional information about this event, volunteer opportunities, or MVLT’s services to landowners, please contact the land trust’s Waldoboro office at 832-5570 or volmvlt@midcoast.com.
