Volunteers needed at local farms

Learn more about volunteer opportunities at Aldermere Farm and Erickson Fields Preserve on Tuesday, June 10.

Rockport — Join the staff of Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s Aldermere Farm and the Erickson Fields Preserve, two conserved farms in Rockport, Tuesday, June 10, at 3:30 or 5:30 p.m. to learn more about all the different volunteer opportunities there are at these two farms.

This will be an afternoon of learning and celebrating for new and returning volunteers, so choose the time that works to attend.

Staff will speak about the history of these properties and about the current happenings. Details on the many different volunteer opportunities there are for the summer and throughout the year will also be available. The greatest need currently for Aldermere Farm is for regular once-a-week volunteers to staff their Visitor’s Center during the summer and part of the fall, and for Erickson Fields needs include site maintenance such as mowing, planting, and deliveries to food pantries. There are, however, many other volunteer opportunities at both sites such as painting, maintaining fences, trail maintenance, garden work, farm yard care, mowing, equipment maintenance, and assisting at events.

At this event, folks will learn and understand more about the inner workings of these two conserved farms and get a tour of the main farmyard at Aldermere. The Aldermere Farm farmhouse where the event will be held is located at 20 Russell Ave. in Rockport.

For more information, contact the Aldermere Farm Program Assistant Jeremy Lucas at jlucas@mcht.org or 236-2739. If unable to attend, but are interested in volunteering, please contact the farm and receive materials by mail or email. The Aldermere Farm website is also informative about volunteer opportunities and events at aldermere.org.
