Visitor Center hosts diverse work
Rockland — The Friends of Maine’s Seabirds will host the work of five new artists in their collaborative headquarters with the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge, 9 Water St., beginning with a First Friday reception Oct. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Friends’ first installation in its beautiful new gallery includes four media — watercolors by John Wood, woodcarving by Hank Tyler, drawings by Kathleen Florance and photography by Karl Gerstenberger and Keith Carver. As part of its outreach efforts to the community, the Friends of Maine’s Seabird Islands will continually host artists whose work can be related to its conservation efforts on Maine’s beautiful coastline. A portion of all sales goes to support the mission of the Friends group.
The show will be on display through the end of the year. Regular Visitor Center hours are weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but the public is invited to visit during the city art walk for discussions, light refreshments and to meet the artists. The Center is located across from Boston Financial and Sweets & Meats.
