Vinalhaven-North Haven plays strong defense in loss to RichmondGoalie Blackington turns in yeoman work to keep contest close
Richmond — The Vinalhaven-North Haven boys soccer team was on the defensive on Saturday, Oct. 8 and, for at least a little while, that made longtime athletic rival Richmond a bit nervous.
The islanders played exceptional defense, led by the yeoman work of goalie Isles Blackington, to push the host Bobcats hard throughout the 80-minute affair.

However, in the end, Richmond's talent won out en route to a 4-0 win. The Bobcats led 2-0 at halftime.
Matthew Rines scored a pair of first-half goals for Richmond, while Zach Marseglia and Marston Sneddon scored in the second half for the hosts.
Blackington made 14 saves on 21 shots for Vinalhaven-North Haven, while Zach Small made two saves in net for Richmond.
The Bobcats held a 15-0 advantage in corner kicks.
In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class D South, Vinalhaven/North Haven (3-7, 24.9603 points) is 10th, while Buckfield (8-2-1, 67.2704 points) is first in the 15-team region. The top 10 teams qualify for the playoffs.
