Vinalhaven-North Haven 'enthusiastic,' full of 'potential'
Vinalhaven — The following is a synopsis of the 2013 Vinalhaven/North Haven girls soccer team:

Last year's record/playoff information: 4-8, fifth seed in Western Class D. The No. 5 Vikings lost to No. 4 Buckfield 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Roster: Seniors Bethany Candage (defense), Eliza Davidson (forward/midfield), Molly Foisy (forward), Ashley Hamilton (sweeper/stopper), Ellie Reidy (halfback) and Ryann Warren (striker); juniors Ashley Davis-Oakes (defense), Hayley Bryant (defense/goalie) and Taylor Littlefield (forward/halfback); sophomores Jazmine Arey (defense), Emily Baird (defense), Maddie Hallowell (midfield/striker), Sarah James (defense/striker) and Hannah Noyes (halfback); freshmen Hannah Ames (halfback) and Bailey Wadleigh (defense/goalie); and eighth-graders Gilleyanne Davis-Oakes (goalie) and Deya Doughty (halfback/forward).
Known graduation losses: None.
Significant impact players: Davidson, Reidy, Hamilton, Warren and Davis-Oakes.
Team strengths: Passing and communication.
Team goals: Intensity, to keep communication high.
Top opponents: All teams in Western Class D.
Outlook: The Vikings hope to improve on last year's 4-8 mark and, after losing no seniors, have a wealth of players with another year of experience under their belts. And that can only mean good things for the islanders.
“We didn't graduate any players last year, but still this team seems like a completely different group of girls this year,” said Philbrook. “Last season was a tough one with few players and a lot of injuries. This year from day one the girls are enthusiastic, ready to work hard and playing well together. I expect each game will still be a challenge, but these girls are much more prepared and enthusiastic about the potential this season has to offer.”
