Viking 5K run on Sears Island Sept. 22
Sears Island — The Viking 5-kilometer road race will be Sunday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. on Sears Island.
The cost is $20 for adults, $15 for students and $60 for a family living under the same roof. The cost goes to $25 for adults after Sunday, Sept. 15.
Registration can be accomplished online at Active.com.
The race is on Sears Island, the largest unpopulated island in the Northeast, off Route 1 in Searsport.
All runners/walkers are welcome. The 3.1-mile course is mainly flat. A portion of the loop is packed gravel, with the rest being a wide paved avenue.
In addition to Vikings, runners/walkers may spot beaver, deer, blue heron and seals, race organizers said.
Proceeds from the race will benefit children in the Searsport area. Proceeds will flow directly to "Together in Education," the non-profit organization that supports middle school and high school education in the Searsport area.
Running awards will go to the first and second male and female for those: 60 and older, adult, youth 14 and older and youth 13 and younger.
T-shirts will be given to those who preregister by Sept. 15.
