|Nov 12, 2013|
|9:30 AM - 11:30 AM|
Remembering those who have fallen and served, the Coastal team is encouraging veterans to share their military and war experiences. In recognition of Veterans' Day 2013 area veterans, family and community members are invited to come to Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521 Main Street in Damariscotta on November 12 at 9:30 a.m. to share their stories and their memories. Please bring photographs, scrapbooks, uniforms and memorabilia so that we can learn from you, our dedicated heroes. Let us hear the story of the “Why You Served”.
There is much to discover from our nation’s veterans; however, for some, it can be painful to revisit the memories and difficult to talk about the experiences of war. Families and friends are often very curious about those times, but, because the veteran may not bring them up, the loved ones feel they should not either. Each veteran’s experience with war is an important part of history that should be passed on to future generations. Help us learn from your experiences as we make this a special time to share and time to give our thanks as we guard your legacy and honor your sacrifice. To express your interest call 563-1363. Drop-ins welcome throughout the morning. Beverages and snacks provided.
Veterans, their widows, widowers or children, have you discovered any or all of the benefits to which you may be entitled? Maine has a variety of benefits available to qualifying veterans and dependents in addition to those offered by the federal government. On November 14 at 2:30 p.m. Conrad Edwards, Veterans’ Advocate for the State of Maine, Bureau of Veterans’ Services will discuss the many state and federal benefits available to community members who served in the U. S. military or who are the widows or dependents of a US Veteran.
