Velvet music and a Holiday Expo
Rockland — The Velvet Lounge series of Rock City Cafe, 316 Main St., will present live music Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. As usual, there is no cover charge; however, tipping the musicians is highly encouraged.
On Friday, the series welcomes back the presents Mehuman Trio. Singer/songwriter and guitarist Mehuman Jonson is an award-winning songwriter who has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe. Playing an original mix of acoustic neo-soul and Americana, with influences of jazz, funk and gospel, Mehuman Trio (pronounced “MAY-mon”) creates a sonic palette that defies a single label.
On Saturday, local blues rocker and Vietnam vet Vince “Blind Albert” Gabriel will take the Rock City stage. Gabriel started his first rock band in 1966 and has never looked back. During the past 20 years, he has had the honor to perform and work with blues greats Jimi Rogers, Carey Bell, Kenny Neal, Son Seals, Leon Russell, Big Jack Johnson and many more. As a songwriter, he has written well over 200 songs.
Those looking to brace themselves for the holidays and looking for new ideas are invited to gather between 7:30 and 10 p.m., after Gabriel’s set. Erica Sanchez is putting together a slew of ideas, with some help from her gal pal Lacy Simons. Everyone is invited to come to the shop to laugh, have a few cocktails and grab some ideas to help stay sane. Sanchez promises some awesome lounge-style music.
