Van Dusen visits Jane Alden
Camden — Local children’s author and illustrator Chris Van Dusen will sign eight of his books, which will be available for purchase, Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon at Jane Alden, 6 Main St./Route 1. There will be refreshments and special Halloween treats for kids.
Van Dusen, who lives in Camden, has a new book coming out in March. His most recent is "Randy Riley’s Really Big Hit," the story of an intellectual, some might say nerdy, child who loves baseball and science. Randy is a genius at math, the solar system and robots but not so hot at baseball. Through Van Dusen’s rollicking rhymes and imaginative and vivid illustrations, readers see Randy using his brains to save the day in a really big way.
Van Dusen is the multi-award-winning author and illustrator of books for children including "Circus Ship" and "King Hugo’s Big Ego." Many know him from books detailing the adventures of Mr. Magee including "Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee," "A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee" and "Learning to Ski with Mr. Magee." He also is the illustrator of the popular Mercy Watson books by Kate DiCamillo.
The Maine Reads program has chosen two of Van Dusen’s books to be part of the Read with ME program, which delivers free books to kindergarteners across the state in an effort to foster a child’s love of reading. He is one of only two authors with more than one book selected for this program, enjoying this distinction with one of his heroes, Robert McCloskey. Van Dusen also drew the current Maine lobster license plate. For more information, visit chrisvandusen.com.
