UPDATED: Truck crashes into Waldoboro Hannaford
Waldoboro — Waldoboro Hannaford was delayed in opening for business Oct. 8 after the driver of a stolen pickup truck crashed into the front of the building.
The driver was apparently trying to steal an ATM machine from the store, but failed in the attempt and could not get the truck back out of the building, according to Police Chief Bill Labombarde.
The attempted theft took place at about 3 a.m. and the driver fled on foot.
The truck was stolen in Newcastle, according to police.
The truck destroyed the glass front windows at the store and did damage to the building, according to Hannaford Director of Operations Bob Hatem. The truck did not enter the store itself, only the front entrance area, Hatem said.
No items were taken from the store and there were no injuries, he said.
Police are reviewing surveillance camera footage of the crash.
Labombarde asked that anyone with information contact him at 832-4500 or contact Detective Terry Michaud at the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
