Rockport — Rockport Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the home of one of its own early in the morning May 15.

Crews were dispatched to 59 Rollins Lane at approximately 12:30 a.m., to the home of Greg and Trina Rollins. Greg Rollins is a lieutenant on the department.

According to reports, the fire began at the front of the house and flames soon engulfed the porch and roof.

The home sustained serious damage. The kitchen and two bedrooms were destroyed in the blaze.

The state Fire Marshal's Office was called to assist with the investigation, and was on scene by 10 a.m. Thursday; Fire Chief Jason Peasley said in published reports he believes the fire may have started in a low-voltage transformer used to power landscape lighting.

Fire departments from Rockland, Warren and Hope responded to help battle the fire alongside Rockport. North East Mobile Health Services was also on standby.

Asked if his family had a place to stay, Greg Rollins said the family would probably stay in a motor home they own, but his parents also live nearby, and he owns a rental property that is let to a good friend.

"I have lots of options," Rollins said.
