University College at Rockland to Host Social Service Agencies for Job/Internship Fair
About 20 social service agencies will set up tables next Wednesday, March 27, from noon to 4:00PM at University College at Rockland and speak with students and other community members about volunteer opportunities, internships and vacant job opportunities at their agencies.
According to URock Student Service Coordinator, Dagmar Moravec, this is the first time these agencies have been invited to URock to "showcase" their opportunities for URock students and others.
"We have over 100 students who are enrolled in the Mental Health and Human Service degree program at URock," said Moravec. "They do not always know what's available and where they might apply their skills."
Agencies who will attend are expecting to talk with students about internship, volunteer and immediate hiring needs. Each degree candidate in the mental health and human service program must complete an internship.
According to Moravec, "Sometimes students choose placements because they do not have enough information about the breadth of opportunities in the mid-coast. We hope to help students develop their career interests, so if they want to work with kids, they will know what agencies do that. If their interest is with the elderly, we can point to those opportunities," said Moravec. "This will make the internship or volunteer experience more valuable to them," she added.
Anyone interested in meeting representatives from these agencies is welcome to attend the event. Some of the agencies represented will be Penquis, New Hope for Women, Mobius, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Spectrum Generations and Department of Health and Human Services.
Questions about the event, or preregistration, is available through University College at Rockland at 596-6906.
