Union farmers market season begins May 23
Union — The first Union farmers market on the Union Common is Friday, May 23, from 3 to 6 p.m.
Every week will have a special theme — May 23 is Birds & Bees: it all starts here! In addition to the regular lineup of vendors with meat, dairy, woodenware, produce and baked goods, there will be guests with bees and bee houses, Sharon Turner's special plants for birds and poultry. Need a birdhouse? The farmers market will have those too.
New this year is Ace Bladelove, to sharpen all tools and knives; bring something for him to work on.
Midcoast Spinners will also be there with information about plants to use for dyeing; guest musician is Randy Rickard from Union, who will entertain with some hummin' good oldies — country, folk and early rock. And don't forget the wood-fired pizza.
Guest vendors are invited to join throughout the season; see unionfarmersmarket.org or call 845-2209 for details. There is a few open spots for musicians.
May 30 is Seeds of the Season and there will be free pumpkin seedlings for kids. A pumpkin show will be held in October.
