Thomaston — Shanna Underwood and Wanderlost will perform Friday, Nov. 29, beginning at 8 p.m. at Billy's Tavern, 1 Starr St. behind the downtown business block.

Hailing from Portland, the singer/songwriter performs a combination of originals and covers by the likes of Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, The Band, Wanda Jackson and Neil Young. Underwood performs powerful Bonnie Raitt-style vocals, partnered with a Cowboy Junkies-type feel.

Underwood’s album “Fieldnotes from a Caravan” offers years of songs written on the road. She wrote her first song in her teaching office in Kanchanburi; started singing for ex-pats on the beaches of Thailand; and from then on made a commitment to combining her love of the world and travel with singing for people.

Proving contrary to her own lyrics that you can never go home again, Underwood returned to her home state of Maine and started a band that toured for two years. Today, she divides her time between Maine, Mexico and Nashville. She has been playing regular gigs with a rotating cast of characters and is working on a new record titled “Wandering” featuring the second installment of travel tales and lost loves.

There is a $5 cover charge. For more information, visit billystavern.com or call 354-1177.
