UMaine Singers visit the Midcoast
The University of Maine School of Performing Arts Division of Music has sent the University of Maine Singers on their spring tour, and they will make two Midcoast stops Tuesday, March 11, to present free, public concerts. The 75-voice ensemble will perform from 12:15 to 1 p.m. in the Strom Auditorium of Camden Hills Regional High School, Route 90, Rockport; and cap the day with a full-length concert at 7 p.m. at the Owls Head Transportation Museum, Route 73.
The University of Maine Singers is a select choir whose members come from all disciplines across campus; nearly half of its members are from areas outside of music. Under the direction of Dennis Cox and accompanied by Laura Artesani, the Singers perform multiple concerts on campus throughout the academic year; tour New England for one week each spring; and perform abroad every four years. Auditions, open to any student, are held at the start of every fall semester. Serving as Vice President this year is Camden Hills Regional High School grad Morgan Cates.
In addition to the Midcoast event, the spring tour schedule includes 7 p.m. concerts as follows: March 10, Bar Harbor’s First Baptist Church; March 12, Saco’s First Parish Congregational Church; March 13,
Winnisquam Regional High School in Tilton, N.H.; and March 14, Lasell College in Newton, Mass.
