Warren — A head-on two-vehicle collision on Route 1 killed a 38-year-old Warren woman March 20.

Three other people were taken to Portland and Rockport hospitals.

A silver 1997 GMC Sierra driven by Samuel Simmons,18, of Spruce Head was traveling north while a gold 2003 Subaru Forester, driven by Alison Low, 38, of Warren was traveling south on Route 1.

The vehicles collided head-on near the intersection of Western Road at about 7:30 a.m, said a press release from Chief Deputy Tim Carroll of the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Carroll said for an unknown reason, Simmons crossed the center line and hit Low.

Low died at the scene, said the release.

Also in the Subaru were passengers Dustin Kimball, 18, of Warren and Olivia Blachet, 18, of Waldoboro. Both are in critical condition at Maine Medical Center.

There were no other occupants of Simmons' vehicle. Simmons was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center with minor injuries, said the release.

Deputy Paul Pinkham of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating while Sgt. Ken Smith of the Rockland Police and Lt. Mike Murphy of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office are assisting. The investigation is ongoing, said the release.

Waldoboro EMS, Warren EMS and Thomaston EMS responded to the scene along with the Warren Fire Department.
