Rockport — A two-vehicle crash on Route 1 near Rockport Automotive sent one person to the hospital with minor injuries around 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 20.

According to Rockport Police Officer Dana Smith, Robert Long Jr., 50, driving a white Chevrolet Impala, stopped in front of his mailbox on the southbound side of the road, then started to turn into his driveway on the other side of the street.

As he was turning, he failed to see a white Honda Crosstour driven by Cynthia Sawyer, 55, approaching in the southbound lane, Smith said.. The Honda swerved to avoid the Chevy, but its passenger side collided with the Impala. Sawyer was transported to the hospital by North East Mobile Health Services, Smith said, where she was treated and released.

Both cars were towed from the scene.

Rockport Fire also responded to the scene, where traffic was slowed for 15 to 20 minutes.

I'm a truck driver and I see many people here in the Mid Coast getting their mail while facing oncoming traffic. A very unsafe practice, let alone being illegal. Come on people. Don't be so LAZY!!!! Pull into your driveway or park on the side of the road that your supposed to be on and walk across the street. Yes, I said WALK!!!!

White cars are hard to see. Never buy a white car.
