Maine Women's Network meets June 4

Turn meetings from lemons to lemonade

May 15, 2014
Lori Roming is the guest speaker at the Wednesday, June 4 Maine Women's Network meeting. She will discuss tricks to make meetings more productive.

On Wednesday, June 4, The Midcoast Chapter of Maine Women’s Network will host guest Lori Roming, Research & Program Officer of The Unity Foundation.

This event is sponsored by Allen Insurance and Financial, represented by member Jill Lang.

Everyone has been to one of those meetings: it feels like they go on endlessly and nothing gets accomplished — circular discussions, rehashing history, and lack of direction. In this brief program, participants will look at some of the things that happen in meetings to distract and detract, and how to avoid them. Attendees will leave with a few practical methods and tools to make future meetings fabulous. This is a must-attend for anyone that hosts meetings or attends them.

Roming has been with the Unity Foundation since 2000 and is currently the Research & Program Officer. Her major responsibilities include day-to-day operations, grant management, Jumpstart Our Youth, a collaborative youth philanthropy project, and a nonprofit capacity building program. She carries out the Foundation’s work of strengthening Maine’s nonprofit organizations through strategic board development. Roming's background includes extensive administrative and management experience in government, for-profit and nonprofit sectors.

A graduate of Strengthening Your Facilitation Skills Level 1 and 2, she has served as co-facilitator/trainer for Level 2, as well as providing facilitation to community groups and nonprofit boards in the Midcoast. She is also a graduate of first Midcoast Leadership Academy in 2007 and has been co-coordinator of MLA since its second year. She holds a certificate from the Hutchinson Center in Nonprofit Management and has spent three years facilitating sessions of that program.

This meeting will take place at Cappy’s Restaurant in Camden from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. The cost, which includes full buffet and dessert following the presentation, time for networking and the activities, is $25 for members and $30 for guests of members and/or non-members. Guests and non-members are always welcome. Online pre-registration for members, guests and non-members is required by Friday, May 30.
