Tumbling Bones at Billy’s Tavern

Tumbling Bones

Thomaston — Fresh off a tour in Ireland, Portland-based bluegrass band Tumbling Bones will be performing Thursday, July 18, beginning 9 p.m. at Billy's Tavern, 1 Starr St., behind the downtown business block. Cover charge is $5.

Tumbling Bones are relative newcomers to the thriving southern Maine bluegrass and roots music scene. It has quickly established itself as a vocal-focused band featuring three-part harmony singing over a mix of ancient folk ballads, gospel shouts, bluegrass standards and indie-tinged original compositions.

When not playing regularly in and around Portland this winter, the band’s members were auditioning for the American Musicians Abroad program, a prestigious U.S. State Department program that selects 10 American bands every year to travel overseas as cultural ambassadors and music educators.  Tumbling Bones made it to the final round of auditions in New York City; in the end, they were chosen as alternates for the program.  Prior to embarking for Ireland, they toured down to Virginia and back.

Up next at Billy’s will be another hot night of Latin dance with Primo Cubano Friday, July 19. For more information on the pub and upcoming bands, visit billystavern.com.
