True in ‘Motherhood Out Loud’

The cast of “Motherhood Out Loud” features, from left, Natasha Salvo, Ann Foskett, Laurie Brown, Stephen Wallace (standing) and Jennifer True.

Damariscotta — Midcoast actor Jennifer True of Cushing is one of five performers playing 20 roles in “Motherhood Out Loud,” opening, appropriately enough, on Mother’s Day weekend at the downtown Lincoln Theater.

Originally titled “In Mother Words,” the show play conceived by Susan R. Rose and Joan Stein assembles a series of monologues by American writers and takes on the subject of being a mother, in all its forms — biological, adoptive, surrogate, etc.

The talented Lincoln County Community Theater cast members — True, Laurie Brown, Ann Foskett, Natasha Salvo and Stephen Wallace —  rotate around, performing different characters of different ages, stages and situations covering just about every conceivable motherhood scenario. No topic is off limits including autism, trans-gender children, gay parenting and dementia. The show is more true than funny, although it is plenty funny.

Tickets are $12, $10 for Lincoln Theater members, available through the box office or by phone at 563-3424. For more information, visit atthelincoln.org.
