Trekkers receives donation from Bar Harbor Bank & Trust
Thomaston — Trekkers, a local outdoor-based youth mentoring organization, recently received a $500 donation from Bar Harbor Bank & Trust.
The donation will be used to support Trekkers’ 2014 expansion, which will include providing a total of 17 programs to 11 percent more students this year.
Trekkers connects young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service, and adventure based education. The organization serves students in grades 7 through 12 from the six communities of Regional School Unit 13. Since 2010, Trekkers has been incrementally doubling its core programs to provide mentoring support and educational programs to more students from the local area.
“As Trekkers completes the next stage in the expansion process, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust’s gift will help us reach more young people with our life-changing mentoring programs. Their generous support will be greatly appreciated by the families, students and communities we serve,” Executive Director Don Carpenter said of the donation in a press release. “Building relationships within the community is something that Trekkers values deeply, as does Bar Harbor Bank & Trust. We can’t thank them enough for supporting our students through this gift. I am also grateful to Greg Jones and the local BHBT branch for sponsoring our student-run fundraiser, Trekkapalooza 2014. Proceeds from this “Battle of the Bands” event will support Trekkers’ core programming in the coming year.”
"The Trekkers program is such a valuable experience for our local youth, combining outdoor activity with mentoring from a caring adult. Bar Harbor Bank & Trust is happy to provide a donation to this community-based program, providing participants with skills and relationships they will have for a lifetime," said Greg Jones, branch relationship manager at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust in Rockland.
