Trekkers Hosts Bone Marrow Donor Registry Drive with Be The Match on October 15
Trekkers is hosting a bone marrow donor registry drive with Be The Match on Saturday, October 15th from 10:30am-1pm at Stone Coast Crossfit, 321 Commercial Street, Rockport, Maine.
Alaina Ennamorati, a program manager at Trekkers, was recently matched with a recipient who needed peripheral blood stem cells over the summer, to continue her fight for a cure in a type of blood cancer. Her donation was anonymous and to an international recipient. Trekkers is excited to host this registry drive in honor of Alaina’s donation.
Trekkers staff will be at the drive along with Paul Greenier of Be The Match, to help register donors. Donors should be between the ages of 18-44 and should bring their health insurance card. Joining the registry is a quick process and requires a health history inquiry and a cheek swab.
“I’m so humbled by all of the support from Trekkers and Stone Coast Crossfit to host this drive to encourage more people to join the bone marrow donor registry list. There is such a high need of this kind of gift to people diagnosed with life-threatening blood cancers,” said Ennamorati.
Trekkers is a non-profit outdoor-based mentoring program that connects young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education. As a preventative, community-based program, Trekkers brings students and volunteer mentors together to build meaningful relationships over a period of six years. This model, in turn, creates a safety net for local youth who are civically engaged and oftentimes return to Trekkers as adult volunteers themselves. Trekkers serves the communities of Cushing, Owls Head, Rockland, South Thomaston, St. George and Thomaston.
