Trekkers hires program manager
Thomaston — Trekkers announces the addition of a new program manager, who joins the growing youth-mentoring organization.
This month, Trekkers welcomed Sarah Young as the program begins its fourth year of expanded enrollment.
Originally from Hallowell, Young traveled extensively before joining Trekkers. With a passion for developing experiential youth programming, she has a background in out-of-school education, and a strong commitment to building lasting relationships with young people as a mentor and facilitator. Her passions include community-based education and building community through experiential learning with young people, which makes Young a perfect fit for Trekkers.
Young is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a bachelor's degree in German and history. In July, she completed her master's degree in conflict transformation from the SIT Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, Vt. She served in the Peace Corps in Zambia, worked for Safe Passages in Guatemala, taught English as a Second Language in Moscow and was a Research and Program Intern in Rostock, Germany.
“We are excited about all that Sarah has to offer the Trekkers program,” Executive Director Don Carpenter said in a press release. “Sarah comes to us with a strong background in community development and has a love of travel, meeting new cultures and working with young people. She will be a great asset to our organization and to the six communities we serve as we enter the fourth year of our six-year expansion. We’re lucky to have her join our team!”
Young has been busy meeting students and visiting schools, as well as getting settled in her new office space. As program manager, she will be responsible for facilitating programs and leading educational expeditions for 60 students each year. The addition of this position is part of Trekkers’ expansion plan.
