‘Transformation Tom’ launches books

Rockport — Thomas Dowd will combine the launch of two books with a presentation Friday, Sept. 28 at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St. The free event — “Transformation Time with Transformation Tom” — will begin at 6 p.m., and all are welcome

For more than 20 years, Dowd’s inconsistency in the workplace often caused frustration and cynicism. He began to take actions to grow, such as joining Toastmasters International. These decisions profoundly changed his direction as successes continued to build on each other, and he learned that his satisfaction correlated with his confidence. He has taken his role as a constant learner, and then as a teacher, to another level with his two newly published books. In these books, Dowd addresses his experiences in gaining ground in a corporate setting; and provides advice and lessons on public speaking.

“Transformations of a Doubting: Growing from a Cynic to a Professional in the Corporate World” offers a series of personal lessons and stories. During his first 20 years in a business environment, Dowd learned both positive and negative lessons that transformed into shared professional success. He encourages readers to differentiate themselves in their work environment and enables them to work smarter — not harder — to thrive in corporate chaos. The goal for all readers is to build confidence and shape attitudes to become better people and enriched professionals.

“From Fear to Success” is Dowd's simultaneous new release. This easy-to-follow guide will help  readers overcome anxiety and relate to any audience on their journey to find their communication confidence. The bite-sized tips and techniques will resonate with speakers of all levels, from those wanting to survive a speech to professionals needing reinforcement to hone their craft. The practical guide shares concise methods to develop an effective presentation, make one’s message count and stir emotion.

A resident of Camden, Dowd has more than 20 years of experience in management and leadership roles within the financial and customer service industries. He currently is a senior vice president at one of the largest financial institutions in the United States. In 2011 his expertise as a speaker, author, trainer and coach led him to start his own business, Thomas Dowd Professional Development & Coaching. As well as being a member of the National Speakers Association, Dowd is an award-winning active member of Toastmasters International and was selected as the 2010-2011 District 45 Toastmaster of the Year.
