TPM crew accepts Ice Bucket Challenge
Rockport — The crew at Tolman Pond Market accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Aug. 28 and called out local businesses Landscape Services, McCormick Builders and Knowlton Moving and Storage to also accept the challenge.
Taking the challenge from the left, are, Nate Jameson, Rachael Carter, Jane Johnson and Shammie Jameson.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge began as a way to raise awareness -- and funding -- for research of ALS: amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Participants are challenged to dump ice water on their heads or donate money to the ALS Association; many do both.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 27, The ALS Association reported on its website it has received $94.3 million in donations compared to $2.7 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to August 27). These donations have come from existing donors and 2.1 million new donors, the website states.
