Torch Ride for Special Olympics is Sept. 8
Owls Head — The Torch Ride for Special Olympics Maine will be held Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Owls Head Transportation Museum. The third annual motorcycle ride is dedicated in memory of Fred “Razor” Merritt who died in February 2012 from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the riders will leave at 9 a.m. to head to Belfast (Reny's Plaza for a short break); then head up to Augusta (Texas Roadhouse for a break); then return to Owls Head Transportation Museum around 1 p.m. for a barbecue and live entertainment.
Schooner Bay Taxi will transport Special Olympian athletes from the Midcoast via the 24-passenger bus during the ride. This year’s events include a barbecue, live entertainment by the band Crossin' Mason Dixon, Miss Maine Collegiate Callie MacQueston, the Darlings Ice Cream for a Cause truck, raffle for a lawn tractor and trailer, and silent auction.
