Time to ‘Fly!’ at Ocean View Grange
Martinsville — Port Clyde resident Angela Anderson brings home her solo show, and a brand new body of paintings evolving from her Circus Series, in “Fly!”, an exhibition of new paintings Friday through Sunday, Aug. 1 through 3, at the Ocean View Grange, 435 Port Clyde Road/Route 131. The opening reception is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday; Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday’s are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In preparing to show these works, Anderson was inspired by working with local kids in an art clinic for the town of St. George to expand on the theme of circus and tents with imaginative new pieces. A believer in keeping it fresh, 10 days before the show is to be hung she embarked a new group of paintings of flying tents, trollies and buildings, so beware of wet paint. Also on view will be a sampling of portraits of local children and friends done last fall and winter; and more Flying Wallendas, round and rectangular canvases, tiny paintings to very large.
All oil paintings and watercolors in this show created in 2014, many in July. The artist will do portrait sketching of all ages Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. for $10. She teaches fine art at the Thomaston Academy. Portraits shown in this exhibit were done during last fall’s portrait painting sessions at the Academy, where community members sat still, or played guitar for three hours, while artists captured their likeness.
Anderson also is curator of the summer show at the Ocean House in Port Clyde. For more information about the artist, and to see more paintings, visit angelaandersonpaintings.com or find her on Facebook and Twitter.
