The Acadia Insurance blog post "Lightning - A Force to be Reckoned With!" gives some great information about lightning storms that we frequently see during the summertime.  As we finish up with this winter weather and move into spring, it's good to talk about lightning safety.

Some facts highlighted about lightning in this post:

• The odds of becoming a lightning victim in the U.S. in any one year are 1 in 700,000.
• The odds of being struck in your lifetime are 1 in 3,000.
• Lightning can kill people or cause cardiac arrest.  Over 3,696 deaths were recorded in the U.S. between 1959 and 2003.
• Lightning is the leading cause of farm fires.
