Warren — Warren, Waldoboro and Union fire departments responded when a heating gun caused smoke and minor damage in a housing unit at the Bolduc Correctional Facility on Route 97 at about 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4.

No one was injured and the damage was very minor, according to Warden Patricia Barnhart and Captain Millard Rackliffe of the prison.

Millard said the problem started when repairs were being made to a shower and a heat gun was used to dry the area. The gun charred some insulation, causing smoke to cycle through the building's air handling system.

The event took place in a building at Bolduc that houses about 90 inmates, according to the warden. Not all of the inmates were in the building at the time. At that time of day, inmates are participating in daytime activities including classes and work. Staff members saw the smoke and contacted the fire departments.
