Thomaston Historical Society’s 6th Annual Home for the Holidays Reception & Open House!
THOMASTON, ME: The Captain Samuel Watts House, at 35 Knox Street, Thomaston, will be the site of Thomaston Historical Society’s 6th Annual Home for the Holidays Reception and Open House fundraiser event on Friday and Saturday, December 7 and 8, 2012.
Watts, a sea captain, world renowned shipbuilder and successful investor, built this wonderful home in 1873. Its magnificent structure and massive proportions were befitting of Watts’ status as a town father and one of the few American millionaires at that time.
The Watts House includes approximately 8,000 square feet of living space, many beautiful bay windows, parquet floors, and exquisite archways. It will provide the perfect backdrop for the festive decorations that are a warm and inviting feature of this annual Holiday event.
The two-day Home for the Holidays event will include a preview reception on Friday evening, December 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with music, wine and hors d’oeuvres, and a live auction of donated items called by Auctioneer Bruce Gamage. An open house will be held on Saturday, December 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be a silent auction of items and gift certificates donated by local individuals and businesses running throughout the two days.
Homeowners Bill and Kay Master noted: “We are very excited about welcoming the community to our home during the festive Holiday season, and we are happy to support the Knox Farmhouse maintenance and acquisition efforts of the Thomaston Historical Society.” THS President Mimi Zwick added: “No one should miss this opportunity to visit this beautiful and historic Thomaston home.”
Advance tickets for the preview reception and Saturday’s open house can be purchased by calling 207-354-6924 or by mailing a check to THS Holiday House, P.O. Box 384, Thomaston, ME 04861.
