Feb 03, 2014

Rockport — Thinking about spring? Suffering from cabin fever? Five Town CSD Adult and Community Education has just the thing.

The winter semester includes a full range of home and garden classes among the many offerings. Starting Seeds with the Garden Institute’s Jeanne Hollingsworth, Ergonomics for a Healthy Gardener with Dr. Katie Snow, Composting with Beedy Parker, or Backyard Chickens with Sarah Ruef-Lindquist, are a few of the courses. Retired Professor Bob Emmons happily shares his expertise in his two offerings, Beneficial Insects and Selecting Vegetable Varieties. Old favorites this season include Grow Your Own Organic Garden, Pruning Fruit Trees, and Grape Growing in Maine; new classes this time include Ornamental Grasses and Solar Energy for Your Home.

Many non-gardening classes are also available, check the website or brochure for more listings. Classes are spread out through February, March and April; more than 90 classes begin after Feb. 23.

Most classes are at Camden Hills Regional High School, 25 Keelson Drive, Rockport. For more information or to sign up contact adult ed at fivetowns.maineadulted.org or 236-7800, ext 5. Brochures can be picked up at area grocery stores and co-ops.
