ROCKLAND — Theresa L. Peterson, 54, died following an extended illness April 2, 2011, at her home.
Born Aug. 30, 1956, she was the daughter of Russell and Goldie Richards Wotton. Theresa was educated locally and was a 1974 graduate of Rockland District High School.
Following high school she married Donald Peters Sr. The couple made their home in the New Hampshire area. Together they welcomed their daughter Marika, residing there until Marika was 2.
Returning to Maine with her daughter, Theresa went back to school, earning her LPN from Southern Maine Vocational School in 1990.
On Jan. 2, 1986, she married Bruno Peterson in St. George. Bruno and Theresa were pleased to welcome their second daughter, Amanda. The family resided in St. George until Mr. Peterson’s death on Aug. 19, 2003.
For several years Theresa was employed with the ASK Agency, doing home care. She also assisted her mother with her daycare center in Rockland. She had a giving heart and enjoyed taking care of others.
Theresa loved to go camping with her family in their camper. Sewing and crocheting were also favorite pastimes. In earlier years Theresa took great pleasure in helping her husband cut Christmas trees from their property that they sold each year.
Most recently, due to her illness, Theresa had been confined to her home. However, she did not let this stop her from connecting with the world around her. Her family said she loved to be on the computer; whether it was Facebook, gaming or chatting, she continued to make friends easily.
Theresa’s family also expressed an immense gratitude to the community of caregivers and helpers who have been so supportive to Theresa over the last few years. They said her best friend, Kathy Flanders, has been by her side for over three years. They also said the nurses from Home, Health and Healing have gone above and beyond with her care. The Rockland Fire Department has also assisted Theresa several times, and the family said their care and compassion was outstanding.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, William and Violet Richards, and Willy and Julie Wotton; a brother, Russell Wotton Jr. on Feb. 27, 1989; and her husband, Bruno Peterson.
Theresa is survived by her mother, Goldie Richards of South Thomaston; her father, Russell Wotton of Friendship; her daughters, Marika Crockett and her husband, Richard, of Warren and Amanda Peterson of Rockland; her brothers, Timothy Wotton and his wife, Lisa, of Rockport and Darren Hill of Cushing; her grandchildren, Dylan and Ryan Crockett of Warren; her niece and nephew, Kristy Lee Wotton of Rockport and Dylan Hill of Cushing; a special aunt, Shirley Benner; her dog, Buster; her cat, Toes; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and family members.
A graveside service will be announced at a later date.
