Theme announced for lobster festival
ROCKLAND — In honor of the 65th anniversary of the Maine Lobster Festival, the directors voted on the 2012 “65 Years and Looking Forward to the Future” theme at a recent board meeting. Parade participants are encouraged to show their enthusiasm and excitement.
In honor of one of the longest-running volunteers, the Maine Lobster Festival announced that the 2012 Grand Marshal is Signe Gardner. Gardner was the second Maine Lobster Festival Sea Goddess in 1949. She volunteered at many areas at the festival, including art tents, gates and office, always with a helpful, caring smile. In addition, Gardner also started the ever-popular pancake breakfast at the Main Eating Tent.
Application forms for the 2012 Maine Lobster Festival Parade are available at MaineLobsterFestival.com and, as always, participation in the parade is at no charge.
The parade takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 and in addition to floats also features the grand marshal, 2012 Maine Sea Goddess, the Sea Princesses and their escorts, King Neptune and his court and a variety of bands, marching units, drill teams, and more.
Last year’s parade was one of the largest turnouts yet in both participation and crowd attendance.
In addition to the giant parade down Main Street, the theme also is incorporated into the Fine Art Tent works of art, the children’s parade and more.
The 65th annual Maine Lobster Festival takes place Wednesday through Sunday, Aug. 1-5. For more information visit facebook.com/mainelobsterfestival or MaineLobsterFestival.com.
