The Rockland LBC's First Adoption Event a Success!

On Saturday the 29th, the Rockland LBC hosted the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County for our first ever adoption event! Three kittens and a puppy were brought to the LBC from the PMHSKC in hopes of finding them homes. Jen, a PMHSKC staff member, along with her daughter Raven who volunteers at the shelter were also in attendance to help field questions and attend to any possible adoptions.

The kittens, named Bobbi Pin, Dapper Dan, and Mustache Girl were twelve weeks-old and absolutely precious. When not showing off their inherent kitten cuteness to potential adopters, they spent their time snuggling together in a basket in our kitten cage.

The puppy, who was also twelve weeks-old, was a Walker Tree Hound mix (they thought she might also have some Coon Hound in her). She had been picked up as a stray, skinny and with a hunting collar, and brought to the PMHSKC. They are unsure of her specific origins, but believe she was either abandoned after training or forced out of her pack. No one stepped forward to claim her during the required time she was being held specifically for that purpose, so she was put up for adoption. She didn’t, however, have a name. So the PMHSKC held a naming contest for her while she was at the LBC. A customer named Gena won and so little miss Walker Tree Hound became Mabel.

At the end of the four hours, all three kittens were adopted to three different families (one of which was visiting Maine from Pennsylvania). Mabel was not adopted, but had a great afternoon of socializing with new people and dogs! A PMHSKC alumni, named Mia, even stopped by for a visit during the event.

All told, it was a great inaugural adoption event and we look forward to hosting more, especially in our other three locations. If you would like more information on Mabel, or any of the other animals currently at the PMHSKC, please give them a call at 207-594-2200 or check out their website (you can also find other means of contacting them here).

Until next time, Loyal fans!

P.S. Have a puppy? We have partnered with Annette MacNair of Oh My Dog to host puppy classes at our Rockland location starting April 8th (they will also be held April 15th, 22nd, 29th, and May 6th) . The classes are for puppies 8-20 weeks-old and cost $125. During the class, you will learn the skills you need for a well mannered puppy through positive, motivational training methods. There will also be confidence building games and puppy play time! Class size is limited to five puppies. If you have questions or would like to sign up, please contact Annette MacNair at 207-542-1843 or email her at annette@ohdog.me.
