The Perry Family from Owl's Head in the Civil War
Learn about the Perry family's experiences in the Civil war when Helen Corbett gives her presentation on the experience of the three soldiers from Owl’s Head in the Civil War on Sunday, September 7th at 2 pm in the downstairs room of the Owl’s Head Community Building. While the presentation, sponsored by the Mussel Ridge Historical Society, will be based primarily on letters Chandler Perry Sr., Chandler Perry Jr., and Levi Perry, his brother, sent to their family at home, Helen has done considerable research on their Civil War experiences and the family of her ancestors. She will incorporate this information into her presentation and will also have items to display. This will not be a dry talk but a conversation with someone who is passionate about the experiences of these three men and a rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of the perspective of soldiers far from home fighting in the Civil War
The letters are in a book privately printed and edited by Isabel Henninger, also a descendant of the Perry’s. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the personal perspectives of soldiers in the Civil War as well some of the experiences of those left at home as reflected in responses the soldiers sometimes gave to letters written to them by the family.
We hope others will bring their stories and/or memorabilia about the Civil War to share with others.
