The Murph Challenge honors men, women of armed services

May 18, 2017

Rockport — CJ Strength and The Atlantic Engine Company No. 2 will be co-hosting The Murph Challenge this year.

It will be held at the CJ Strength gym, located inside of the Stone Coast Wellness facility at 321 Commercial St. in Rockport, at 11 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29.

The Murph is designed to be an event that helps honor the men and women of the armed services, and the sacrifices they make for us all. It honors specifically Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a Navy SEAL who gave his life during a firefight in Afghanistan, ultimately earning the Medal of Honor. Many people know Lt. Murphy from the book and movie ‘Lone Survivor.’ The money from the event goes towards the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

The workout consists of a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, an additional 1-mile run, all while wearing a 20-pound weighted vest.

Don’t let the workout scare you! If you can’t do the whole thing, it’s no problem; the coaches at CJ Strength can work with you to provide any modifications or substitutions needed for any and all fitness levels. It’s more important to support the foundation, those going through it with you and our servicemen and servicewomen.

Register online at themurphchallenge.com under the Atlantic Engine Company #2. This will give you the ability to join our team, and put your time up on the national leaderboard.

Please, join us on Memorial Day, at 11 a.m. for the Murph Challenge. Contact Matt Heath at 236-7950 for any questions.
