'The Manchurian Candidate' on film's best ballot
Thomaston — Friends of the Thomaston Public Library presents its Friday Night Film Series with screenings Fridays at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of Thomaston Public Library in the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1. The theme for October’s movies is Political Plots.
The Oct. 19 film is "The Manchurian Candidate", a 129-minute film from 1962 that is rated PG-13. Eerie, shocking, daring, thrilling and mesmerizing, "The Manchurian Candidate" features an all-star cast including Angela Lansbury in an Oscar-nominated performance. Raymond Shaw (Laurence Harvey), a Korean War hero, has been brainwashed by the communist Chinese. With one phone call, the Reds can transform Shaw into a deadly assassin — unless fellow veteran Bennett Marco (Frank Sinatra) can stop them first.
Friday Night Films are open to the public and free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. The Thomaston Academy Building is handicapped accessible from the rear entrance and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
