The First evens record at 4-4 with win over Red Barn

Graffam, Allender, Jacob, Townsend lead charge

Augusta — The First, the Rockland-based American Legion baseball team, has evened its record at 4-4 on the summer diamond season.

That played out Tuesday, July 1 in Augusta as The First traveled to face The Red Barn, as the visitors picked up an 11-8 victory.

Connor Graffam worked six innings on the hill for The First, while Ryan Allender earned the save in one inning of work.

Leading The First at the plate were Graffam (2 hits, RBI), Caleb Jacob (2 hits), Drew Townsend (2 hits) and Allender (2 hits).

The First led 8-3 entering the sixth inning, while The Red Barn scored five times in the bottom of the frame to tie the game.

Allender then rapped an RBI-single and Andrew Hall came through with a bunt single to put the hosts ahead for good in the top of the seventh inning.
