The First Bancorp Elects New Director
Daniel R. Daigneault, President and Chief Executive Officer of The First Bancorp, holding company for The First, N.A., recently announced that Cornelius “Connie” Russell has been elected to serve as a Director for the bank and the holding company.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors and the management team, I welcome Connie Russell to The First. Mr. Russell is a proven leader in Knox County as well as the Maine hospitality industry, and his business acumen will complement our Board very nicely,” said President Daigneault.
Mr. Russell is the General Manager of the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine, where he has been employed since 1999. Over the past fifteen years, Mr. Russell has directed significant renovation and expansion projects at the Samoset, which is recognized as a AAA Four Diamond Hotel and a member of the Preferred Hotel Group. From 1987 through 1998, Mr. Russell served the Samoset’s parent company, Ocean Properties Ltd., in various hotel management positions in Maine, New Hampshire, Colorado, Arizona and Florida.
Mr. Russell is a very active civic leader, serving on the Maine Innkeepers Association Board of Directors, where he was President from 2007 through 2009. He is the Treasurer of the Samoset Timeshare Estates Homeowners Association, and past State Vice President of New England Inns & Resorts Association. He serves on the Maine State Chamber of Commerce board of directors, and was President of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2006. He also currently serves on the Penobscot Bay Healthcare Board of Trustees.
Connie has been recognized for his dedication and service to the hospitality industry, receiving the Maine Innkeepers Association President’s Award in 2009 and the Maine Innkeeper of the Year Award in 2010.

Connie was born in Bangor, attended Orono High School, and graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Science degree in Resource Economics. In his free time, Russell enjoys coaching and playing ice hockey in the Maine Coast Skaters Association. He and his wife, Juliet, have two children, Jacqueline and Connor, who both attend Camden Hills Regional High School. The family resides in Rockport.
