Teeing it up again: Inaugural Grand Mariner Golf Tournament Aug. 17Event originally scheduled for June 15, moved for Oceanside state title softball game
Rockland — The inaugural Grand Mariner Golf Tournament is set to swing in for a second time — after the first attempt did not even get off the tee.
A fundraiser to improve Oceanside High School athletic facilities and hosted by the Oceanside All-Sports Boosters, the golf event initially was scheduled for Saturday, June 15, but was subsequently moved to Saturday, Aug. 17 due to the Oceanside softball team playing in — and winning — the state Class B championship game on the same date.
The golf tournament this weekend is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
In addition to the golf tournament, there also will be a heritage sale/auction of uniforms and other gear from the former Georges Valley High and Rockland District High schools.
The sale begins at 9 a.m. and there is a $5 entrance fee for non-golfers.
Golfers also will get an opportunity to win a 2013 Chevy Cruze, courtesy of Fuller Chevrolet, with a hole-in-one on the par-3 10th hole.
“We are looking forward to a great event,” said Greg Billingsley of the boosters. “We should have a great day for fun and golf. We are also very excited about the heritage sale. This is just a perfect opportunity for the community to invest in Oceanside’s future by honoring it's foundations of Rockland and Georges Valley. Come join us for golf, prizes and take home some memories for a good cause.”
The tourney and Oceanside All-Sports Boosters is supported by Fuller Chevrolet, Brooks Trap Mill, Allen Insurance Agency, KDK Printing, Trufer Apparel, Frantz Furniture, Highland Café, Genuine Auto and Thomaston Grocery.
