Teams sought for WFBC men's basketball leagueOpen gym play set for Oct. 23 and 30
Waldoboro — The 2012 Waldoboro First Baptist Church Men’s Basketball League will begin its new season this month with open gym play on Tuesdays, Oct. 23 and 30 at 6 p.m.
League games and open gym play is at the Waldoboro First Baptist Church on Rt. 1 near Moody’s Diner.
Due to the success of previous years, the league is the largest and best attended of its kind and is expanding from 18 to 21 teams for the upcoming season.
In 2011, there were Division I and II levels of play and more than 220 men participated. Due to the anticipated increase in response for 2012, the league will expand to three competitive divisions — I, II, III.
A round robin tournament will be held in early November to determine each team's division. Those interested in playing, having a team, or returning with a team from a previous season must participate in the round robin.
All men are welcome to play, join or assemble a team if they are age 18 or older and out of high school.
"As a family environment we encourage everyone to come out and support all the players as the audience while enjoying competitive basketball," said organizer Vick Pease.
