Take a journey through the gardens of Portugal
Camden — Val Libby will lead a presentation on the history of the gardens of southern Portugal at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at noon.
Libby’s talk will explore the natural and cultural histories of Portugal’s southern gardens between the 17th and 19th centuries. Portugal’s imperial history and the influence of the Moors helped shape these spectacular gardens, as they exist today. A colorful slideshow will accompany her lecture.
Libby visited Portugal by way of the University of the Algarve, when she received a Fulbright Chair in 2004. She was an associate professor of landscape history at Temple University in Philadelphia for 20 years before relocating to Blue Hill in 2008.
This talk is part of Merryspring 's 2013 Winter Talk Series, co-sponsored by The First and the Allen Insurance and Financial agency. Admission is free for Merryspring members, with a nominal fee of $5 for non-members.
