Sweetgrass Farm Winery & Distillery (sweetgrasswinery.com) was founded in 2005 in Union, on the historic Carroll Farm, by husband and wife team, Keith and Constance Bodine. Sweetgrass uses Maine grown fruit and grain to produce fine wines and distinctive spirits.
Sweetgrass is best known for their award-winning premium gin, Back River Gin which is renowned for its smoothness and crisp botanicals. Back River gin was named one of the World’s Best Spirits and a Best Buy by Wine Enthusiast Magazine, earned a Highly Recommended from the Spirits Journal, and a medal in the 2013 American Distilling Institute Spirits competition. In 2013
Sweetgrass completed a 4,000 square foot addition to the distillery, enabling them to increase production of their Maine grown whiskey and to meet increased demand for Back River Gin, Three Crow Rum, Apple Brandy, fortified wines, wines, and other spirits.
At the Portland grand opening, taste Cranberry Smash paired with Dean Sweet’s delicious truffles, or a decadent cupcake from Kupcake, Inc. paired with winemakers Reserve Blueberry Wine or discover your own pairing choosing from over a dozen wines and spirits. Just Kim, a fine jewelry and accessories shop, Lovely Things, featuring vintage collectibles and home accessories, and Vena’s Fizz House a mixology shop and natural soda bar will be joining in on the celebration by extending their hours and offering specials for the day.
