Swamp funk from New Orleans
Rockland — The Monday Night Blues series continues Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. with the Peter Novelli Band at the Time Out Pub, 275 Main St. Admission will be $10.
Guitarist, singer and songwriter Peter Novelli is based in New Orleans and his band offers an original blend of swampy, funky roots and blues/rock with a twist of zydeco/Cajun. Novelli’s originals, with a few selected covers, make a journey through Louisiana/American blues/roots music.
Novelli started violin at age 6 and picked up guitar at 14 after hearing a BB King record. The intensity, passion and raw emotional content of some of the blues masters stuck in his ear and that is what drives him to this day. He likes to combine this feel with harmonic ideas of jazz, the relentless groove of zydeco, and just about any cool and unusual style of music or rhythm that works.
Upcoming in the weekly series are: Oct. 1, the Peter Novelli Band ($10); Oct. 8, the Lydia Warren Band ($10); Oct 15, Bobby Messano Band ($10); Oct. 22, Gracie Curran Band ($10); and Oct. 29, Halloween party with the Anthony Gomes Band ($15). There also will be a special Sunday night concert by Gomes the night before, Oct. 28 ($15). For more information, visit the Time Out Pub Blues link at northatlanticbluesfestival.com.
