Sutton announces Senate District 12 candidacy
Warren — Republican Paula Sutton, a Warren resident and small business owner, is running for the Maine State Senate in District 12, which includes all of Knox County except the town of Washington.
Sutton was raised in Maine and attended Maranacook Community High School in Readfield, near Winthrop, before studying business at Becker College in Massachusetts. She now lives in Warren with her husband Kerin and their dog Max; they have two grown daughters, Abby and Karly, and two grandchildren.
Sutton has worked as a real estate agent, an owner of local restaurants, and a principal in a wholesale seafood company. She has also volunteered at a local food pantry, at the YMCA (where she was named Volunteer of the Year twice), and has served as Deputy Registrar for the town of Warren.
“My extensive and diverse work experience will help me to understand the needs of Maine’s struggling families," Sutton said in a news release. “We need better jobs, stronger schools, and a more efficient government that works to make Mainer’s lives better.”
Sutton said her focus in Augusta will be to reduce waste in government, promote responsible fiscal policies, and foster more government transparency and accessibility.
“As a small business owner, I understand how harmful excessive government regulation can be to our local and state economies,” she said. “In Augusta, I will fight for sensible laws that safeguard our communities and allow our businesses to thrive.”
Sutton is running a traditional campaign funded by donations, not tax dollars, because she believes that no one should be forced to support political candidates.
“Please join me. Together, let's make sure that our great state of Maine can be prosperous again, and always remain free,” she said.
