Supper to benefit youth Methodist camp yurt construction
South Thomaston — On Saturday, Jan. 19, the "little church on the Keag River", the United Methodist Church will sponsor a public supper with homemade casseroles, baked beans, salads and pies. The supper begins at 5:30 p.m.
The benefit for this supper is the Youth Program at Camp Mechuwana, the Methodist Camp of Maine. Amy Jones Griswold, a 2005 graduate of Rockland District High School, has recently been named youth leadership director for Mechuwana, and works closely with the state's Methodist Youth Council.
Together, they have decided on raising funds to build a yurt at the camp, located in Winthrop, to have additional year-round programming for the state's youth. A yurt is a semi-portable dwelling made of timber and tent-like material, large and comfortable and easily heated. Each member of the youth council will be helping sponsor a public supper at their home church, with Griswold starting with her home church in South Thomaston.
Reservations are highly recommended as the supper fills up quickly. Guests may call either 594-5139 or 596-6020 to reserve a place at a table. In the event of inclement weather, the supper will be postponed to the following evening, Sunday, Jan. 20.
