Summer folk farewell
Rockland — On Labor Day, Sept. 3, Rockland Poet Laureate Carol Bachofner distributed 111 poems to departing visitors at the city’s Maine State Ferry terminal, to passengers on the 8:50 a.m. southbound bus and the historic Granite Inn, Berry Manor Inn, Limerock Inn and Capt. Lindsay House.
The poems were poems of travel and transportation and poems about islands and the sea. They were provided by poets both local and from away and included original work of the providers as well as favorite classics by Edna St. Vincent Millay, Rumi, Wendell Berry and others.
The poem-gifting is part of Bachofner’s Poet Laureate Project series. Next up will be Poems and Pumpkins, a Halloween offering, followed by Poems for the Palate around Thanksgiving.
