Port Clyde — While analog photography is becoming a thing of the past, Toni Small continues to use black and white film to study the world around her, where the Georges River meets the sea. Georges River Land trust offers the opportunity to spend an afternoon in Small’s Port Clyde studio Thursday, Aug. 14.

From 3 to 5 p.m., guests — limited to eight —visitors will learn about Small’s work with the very simple pinhole camera, as well as her long-term photographic portfolio of the Port Clyde groundfishing fleet. Refreshments and stories will be served.

Using photography to convey stories, ask questions, talk about time and pay tribute, Small moves between camera types and styles. This Revelry for the River event sponsored by Georges River Land Trust offers the opportunity to dive into an artist’s process and to consider how she makes use of her immediate environment to trawl for story material; and how she plays with her cameras for surprising results.

Tickets are $45, $35 for Land Trust members. After enjoying refreshments, participants can stroll down Horse Point Road and take in the amazing views. For tickets, call GRLT at 594-5166 or visit georgesriver.org/revelry. All proceeds benefit the conservation programs of the Land Trust.

The George River Land Trust’s third season of Revelry for the River includes a full year of diverse activities. Upcoming events include a Georges Highland Path Hike-a-Thon Saturday, Aug. 9; a completely wood-fired meal in Tenants Harbor Wednesday, Sept. 10; and an evening of opera, food and fun on Rackliff Island Friday, Oct. 10. All these events showcase the beauty of the Georges River watershed and continue the celebration of the Land Trust’s conservation success in Midcoast Maine in its 27th year.
