Squid Jiggers in Lincolnville
Lincolnville — The monthly Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce After Hours gathering will feature live music Wednesday, July 18 at Bay Leaf Cottages & Bistro, 2372 Atlantic Highway/Route 1. The pre-Maine Celtic Celebration evening will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., is free and open to the public.
Bay Leaf’s Bistro will provide an ice cream social and beverages and the Squid Jiggers will provide the tunes. The Squid Jiggers, David Rowe and Troy Bennet, are known for their Maine maritime music and traditional Celtic and Acadian songs. They took their name from the A. R. Scammell song “Squid Jigging Ground,” which is a musical depiction of the squid fishing waters off Newfoundland. Rowe grew up at the feet of Schooner Fare’s bass guitar player, Tom Rowe; by age 15, he was playing professionally. He tours with the Dave Rowe Trio, as well as the Squid Jiggers. Bennet grew up following Schooner Fare’s music and started his professional career with the Irish band called Rakish Paddy. He formed the Half Moon Jug Band, which continues to tour New England.
After Hours is a way for chamber members and non-members to network and get to know various businesses throughout the community. Bay Leaf Cottages & Bistro is a cottage and motel property that offers cooking classes, theme dinners and Saturday night lobster dinners on-site.
